Proper credentialing of the medical staff is a process that should not be taken lightly. A comprehensive review of the medical staff credentialing process is presented by our speakers. The review includes how the process should flow, including who should be involved and who should perform the duties. Discussions also address implementation of an OPPE and FPPE for competency of medical staff.
Participants will receive 0.75 nursing contact hours from the Hospital Services of Louisiana, Inc. for complete attendance of the program. Hospital Services of Louisiana, Inc is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing – CE Provider #60.

Meet Our Speakers

John R. Pastrano, 

BBA, CPMSM, CPCS 
John Pastrano, BBA, CPMSM, CPCS, is the Director of Credentialing for SignifyHealth located in Dallas, Texas with oversight credentialing responsibilities for their national network. John, a native Houstonian, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. John’s 30 years of credentialing experience includes hospital, managed care and CVO settings with oversight responsibilities of medical staff affairs, standardization for processing pre-applications, initial and reappointment applications, privileges and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE). John has also been an Intermittent Consultant for Joint Commission Resources.

John was the first elected male President for NAMSS in 2014 and currently serves as a NAMSS Instructor. John continues his passion in credentialing by speaking at local, State and National conferences on various topics in credentialing and MSP well-being.

Kate Conklin 

Kate Conklin has over 30 years of experience in Ethics and Compliance, Quality, Patient Safety and Physician Relations and 13 years in the C-Suite of hospitals in the HCA system and a large academic institution. Kate is currently the System Deputy Compliance & Privacy Officer for Steward Healthcare based in Dallas, Texas. In her role, Kate oversees the compliance & Privacy programs at their affiliated hospitals and physician practices.

Kate holds a BA in Healthcare Management and a Master’s of Science in Healthcare Ethical and Regulatory Leadership. She is certified in Compliance, Quality, and Medical Staff Services and has served as the President of the National Association Medical Staff Services. A frequent speaker and advocate for patient safety, it is the topic of negligent credentialing that she believes is the most critical and is the very foundation of patient safety and risk mitigation.
