Overview:  In this presentation, common security issues and needs of physician practices and standalone healthcare provider sites will be discussed including considerations on how to effectively design measures to deter, detect, delay and defend against threats to our patients and staff.  

Objectives

Understand the strategies used to better protect stand-alone practices and clinics from a security perspective including physical, operational and cultural approaches.

Discuss the importance of appropriate training of staff to include workplace violence detection and prevention and the location and use of security technology (panic buttons, access controls) and how and when to contact local law enforcement for assistance.

Develop insights into how a proper Security Vulnerability Assessment (SVA) can help to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement regarding security measures and procedures. 



Meet Our Speakers

Bryan Warren

Bryan Warren is president and chief consultant at WarSec Security, specializing in healthcare security and safety program assessments and education. Bryan holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, an MBA with a focus on legal foundations of healthcare and has been a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) since 2005. He has over 36 years in the healthcare security, safety and emergency management field and is a Past President of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS). He has authored numerous guidelines and articles on the topic of security for healthcare organizations and served on several national task forces including the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Infrastructure Protection, the Joint Counter- Terrorism Assessment Team (JCAT) and as a volunteer leader in numerous professional associations and advisory boards. More recently he has been privileged to assist both The Joint Commission and Joint Commission - International in the creation of standards regarding Workplace Violence in healthcare.
