Although surgical fires may be rare, they are devastating when they occur. Our presentation discusses the locations where surgical fires occur, the three components that comprise the fire triangle, and best practices that can be implemented to prevent these fires from occurring.
Participants will receive 0.25 nursing contact hours from the Hospital Services of Louisiana, Inc. for complete attendance of the program. Hospital Services of Louisiana, Inc is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing – CE Provider #60.  

CHSP/CPSO: 0.25 contact hours of continuing education credit toward fulfillment of the requirements of CHSP designation of Certified Healthcare Safety Professional & CPSO designation of Certified Patient Safety Officer .

Meet Our Speaker

Caroline Stegeman, RN, BSN, MJ, ONC, CPHRM, CPSO 

Director of Patient Safety

Caroline Stegeman, RN, BSN, MJ, ONC, CPHRM, CPSO, has more than 30 years of nursing and clinical risk management experience in a variety of healthcare settings. 


She has extensive experience in the management and handling of patient safety issues/ incidents, clinical and environmental risk assessments, root cause analysis, regulatory and industry best practices (TJC, CMS, DHH), hospital emergency preparedness and disaster management, and quality improvement initiatives. 


As Director of Patient Safety, Ms. Stegeman works closely with LHA Trust Funds members to provide patient safety recommendations and put them into practice to reduce risk. She speaks on many different patient safety and risk management subjects, including risk assessment, emergency preparedness, disaster management, and quality improvement.
