Exam Information & Proctoring

Exam Information

Examination results are used to evaluate a candidate’s competency against a defined standard of knowledge. To demonstrate proficiency, candidates must complete an exam that assesses understanding across the core curriculum. While the exam is rigorous, it does not require mathematical calculations. Experienced healthcare risk management professionals and subject matter experts in relevant fields develop the exam content. It consists of 120 questions, including 10 unmarked pilot questions that are under review.

These review questions are randomly distributed throughout the exam and are not scored; they are being evaluated for reliability and potential inclusion in future exams. The exam features a variety of question formats, including: • Recall questions, which assess the ability to remember specific facts and information. • Case study questions, which test comprehension and the application of knowledge in defined scenarios. • Analysis questions, which evaluate the candidate’s ability to interpret, integrate, and apply information to develop practical solutions.

The test is timed and 150 minutes will be allowed for the exam before the tests ends automatically. In rare cases, unexpected events—such as illness, military obligations, power outages, or natural disasters—may prevent a candidate from completing the exam as scheduled. When this occurs, the Certification Program Coordinators will review the situation on a case-by-case basis and determine the appropriate steps to resume or reschedule the exam process.

Proctoring

The examination is offered electronically. Reasonable accommodation will be considered when requested. Computers that meet the system requirements will be needed for the exam. Candidates must have a web camera available during the exam. Access to any outside resources, including written, verbal, or through electronic devices, during the exam is prohibited.

As part of the HSLP certification workflow, candidates may encounter privacy notices, proctoring requirements, identity verification steps, and exam-related rules. Use of a work computer is discouraged due to firewalls and security features that sometimes block the launch of the exam. A system check will be required prior to the beginning of the exam.

For exam integrity, LHATF uses OctoProctor as its proctoring provider. Depending on the enabled settings, the system may collect identity photos, ID images, room scan information, webcam and screen video/audio, behavioral indicators, chat transcripts, and administrator notes.

Candidates must have a web camera available during the exam. The camera must be capable of showing the room where the candidate is taking the exam. Access to any outside resources, including written, verbal, or through electronic devices, during the exam is prohibited.

LHATF determines which proctoring features are enabled. Proctoring data is stored in Ireland and managed according to configured retention settings. LearnWorlds stores only the exam outcome, completion status, and related flags needed to support the certification workflow. Candidates are expected to:
